After the spike protein is made, the mRNA is destroyed. The mRNA never enters the cells core or modifies the cell’s genetic material.
Once the spike proteins appear on the cell’s surface, the person’s immune system recognizes it as bad. Then the person’s own immune system develop antibodies against the virus.
There are currently no licensed mRNA vaccines in the United States. Clinical trials using mRNA have been carried out for rabies, influenza and cytomegalovirus in the past.
