Microneedling

Photo by John Tekeridis on Pexels.com

Microneedling has been around since the 1990s. It has become popular recently as celebrities include it in their beauty regimen. Microneedling, also known as collagen induction, is a safe and inexpensive way to improve the skin’s appearance.

Microneedling uses a device that looks like a pen and contains 12 to 36 tiny needles in the hand piece. These needles when applied to the skin cause tiny punctures and these punctures cause the body to produce collagen and elastin to heal the wound. Collagen and elastin give your skin its strength and elasticity. Our body’s production of collagen starts to decrease by 26 years of age.

Because microneedling produces small pin holes in the skin, product can be applied to your skin and its absorption enhanced, thus increasing its benefits.

Microneedling is a safe procedure tolerated by all skin types, but don’t expect immediate results. Your body needs time to repair itself. We recommend a series of 4-6 treatments at one month intervals to get the best results. The improvement in the skin can occur up to several months after the treatment series is completed.

Tips for Healthy Skin

Photo by cottonbro studio on Pexels.com

Here are the last of our February healthy skin tips!

This week’s tips…

Eat a healthy diet: Add as many fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and healthy grains as possible into your diet. Some research shows that a diet high in processed or refined sugars and unhealthy fats promotes skin aging.

Protect your skin from the sun: Seek shade whenever possible and wear SPF of at least 30 daily. Photodamage leads to premature aging of the skin as well as skin cancer.

This week’s tips…

Drink less alcohol: Not only can alcohol interfere with your sleep, making you look tired the next day, it also deeply dehydrates the skin. Alcohol can also trigger chronic skin conditions, such as psoriasis and rosacea.

Exercise regularly: Exercise keeps the heart rate up and improves blood circulation, which can help to deliver oxygen and nutrients and promote the production of collagen and new skin cells.

Tips for Healthy Skin

This week’s tip…

Stop Smoking: Smoking deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients and can make it appear pale or uneven. With more than 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke, many of them destroy collagen and elastin, which give your skin its strength and elasticity. Smoking or simply being around secondhand smoke can lead to sagging skin and deeper wrinkles.

Protecting Your Skin in the Winter

Photo by Darius Krause on Pexels.com

As the cold weather continues, we’ll share some important tips to keep your skin hydrated and safe all winter long.

This week’s tips…

Antioxidants: Antioxidant serums reduce inflammation caused by free radicals. They help brighten the skin by blocking the production of abnormal pigment. Examples of antioxidants are: grape-seed, resveratrol, vitamin E. In addition Vitamin C promotes collagen formation and works to repair skin damage.

Sunscreen: It’s true that there is less sun in the winter than in the summer. Keeping the skin protected from the sun is important in the winter when the climate is dryer and the skin’s barrier may not be as strong as the summer months. Therefore continue to apply sun screen during the winter months.

Keeping Your Skin Hydrated in the Winter

Photo by Darius Krause on Pexels.com

As the cold weather continues, we’ll share some important tips to keep your skin hydrated and safe all winter long.

This week’s tips…

Moisturize: The most important step you can take to prevent your skin from drying is moisturizing. Humectants such as hyaluronic acid or glycerin will help draw moisture from the atmosphere to the top layer (epidermis) of your skin or from your (dermis) lower layer into your top layer.

Lock in the moisture: Applying a cream will occlude the skin and lock in moisture. Shea butter, cocoa butter, mineral oil or lanolin are excellent occlusive creams for the body. Creams applied to the face should be specially made for facial skin care. Creams should always be applied to the skin after application of a serum, which we will be discussing.

Helpful Tips Cold Weather Skin Care

Photo by Darius Krause on Pexels.com

As the cold weather continues, we’ll share some important tips to keep your skin hydrated and safe all winter long.

This week’s tips…

Stay hydrated: Just because it’s not hot out and you’re not sweating, does not mean you can slow down on your water intake. A hydrated body helps your skin stay hydrated too. Soaking in a hot bath may feel like it would keep skin moisturized, but it doesn’t. A long, hot soak will strip natural oils from the skin, drying you out. Take that hot shower, but then apply a good moisturizer all over. Products with hyaluronic acid will draw moisture right back into the skin

Maintaining your skin’s moisture: As the outside air starts to transition from humid to dry, it is important to maintain the moisture in your skin. This will prevent drying, peeling or cracking. During the colder dryer months cleanse with a hydrating cleanser. Apply a moisture mask weakly for extra hydration!

Cold Weather Skin Care

Photo by Darius Krause on Pexels.com

As the cold weather continues, we’ll share some important tips to keep your skin hydrated and safe all winter long.

This week’s tips…

Cover Up: Just because you can’t see very much of the sun does not mean it’s not there. Cover up to avoid harmful UV rays, and be sure to layer with wicking fabric. You’ll want to avoid any irritation from scratchy fabrics, especially if you suffer from eczema or psoriasis. Also, check to make sure you are covered head to toe. No one needs frostbite after a day of fun. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen, as windburn is sunburn. A broad-spectrum SPF 30 should do the trick. Just reapply every couple of hours, especially if you are sweating.

Take care of your lips: When the cold air hits your lips for hours at a time, lips can become chapped and cracked. So, before you strap into those skis, layer on the lip protections and reapply regularly. Make sure it has hydrating ingredients like natural coconut or jojoba oils vitamin E, beeswax, and shea butter. For an added bonus, try to get a lip balm with an SFP in it. Lips can get sunburned too!

Winter Skin Care

Photo by Kristin Vogt on Pexels.com

Tis the season for dry, cracked skin. So what can you do?

Cold weather and reduced humidity can lead to cracked and painful skin on the hands and feet. Exposure to harsh winter elements without proper protection can exacerbate the issue.

Hydrate and Moisturize:

Combat cracked heels and hands by boosting hydration. Drink plenty of water to moisturize from within, and apply a thick, moisturizing cream enriched with ingredients like shea butter. Regular application, especially after washing, promotes healing.

Exfoliate Gently:

Foster skin renewal with a gentle exfoliation routine. Use a mild scrub or foot file on heels, being mindful not to over-exfoliate. Regular exfoliation softens the skin, enhancing its receptiveness to moisturizers.

Protective Measures:

Safeguard your hands and feet from harsh elements. Wear gloves in cold weather to prevent dryness, apply a rich moisturizer before bedtime for cracked heels, and opt for breathable cotton socks. Avoid walking barefoot on rough surfaces to minimize further cracking.

December Special

Sparkle for the holidays with a chemical peel and our new laser facial. We are combining a chemical peel and laser facial rejuvenation to maximize your results. You will see a difference the same day!

For a limited time, $175.00 for the combination treatment!
